How to Dispose of Electronics in Sonoma County
Keep toxic heavy metals out of the landfill. Here is where your old TVs and computers belong.
You bought a new flat screen. Now the old heavy tube TV is sitting in the garage. You cannot put it in the trash bin. Electronics contain lead, mercury, and cadmium. They require special handling.
What Counts as E-Waste?
E-waste includes televisions, computer monitors, laptops, printers, cell phones, and microwaves. Basically, if it has a circuit board or a screen, it is e-waste.
Free E-Waste Drop-Offs
California law makes e-waste recycling free for consumers. You can drop off your old electronics at the Central Disposal Site on Mecham Road at no charge. The Healdsburg and Sonoma transfer stations also accept e-waste for free.
Goodwill and E-Waste
Goodwill of the Redwood Empire accepts most electronics, even broken ones. They partner with e-waste recyclers to ensure the components are broken down safely. Drop them off at their Hopper Ave location in Santa Rosa.
