Sonoma County Recycling Centers
Where to take your scrap metal, bulk cardboard, and CRV bottles.
Your blue bin fills up fast. When you have a massive pile of broken down boxes from a move, or scrap metal from a yard cleanup, you need a dedicated recycling center.
Scrap Metal Recycling
Metal should never go in the landfill. It is heavy and highly recyclable. If you have old pipes, aluminum siding, or broken metal patio furniture, take it to a scrap yard. Santa Rosa Recycling and Collection on Standish Avenue takes most scrap metals. Some places even pay you for aluminum and copper.
Bulk Cardboard
Moving boxes pile up quickly. The Central Disposal Site on Mecham Road has dedicated drop-off areas for clean, flattened cardboard. Do not leave packing peanuts or styrofoam inside the boxes. They will reject them.
CRV Beverage Containers
California charges a fee on bottles and cans. You can get that money back. Look for CRV buyback centers in grocery store parking lots across Petaluma, Santa Rosa, and Rohnert Park. They pay by weight for aluminum cans, glass bottles, and plastic bottles.
What About Mattresses?
Mattresses are recyclable, but they don't go in the blue bin. The Bye Bye Mattress program allows you to drop off old mattresses for free at participating transfer stations, including the Central Disposal Site.
When to Hire Us
Sorting metal, breaking down boxes, and driving to three different facilities takes a whole Saturday. We do this every day. We load up your mixed junk, sort it at the yard, and route the recyclables to the right places. You just point at the pile.
